30 day blog challenge cont. Day 13

Day 13 - A fictional book

The Giver - Lois Lowry*
It's been more than a couple of years since I read this book last, but I do remember thinking this was one of the best books I had ever read. There are two other books written by Lowry which form a loose trilogy, I skipped the 'second' book completely and recently read the third, which I enjoyed.

This book follows a 12-year-old boy named Jonas who is chosen to be the community's Receiver of Memories. Under the tutelage of the Elders and an old man known as the Giver, he discovers the disturbing truth about his utopian world and struggles against the weight of its hypocrisy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but you don't have to take my word for it.**

I had to restrain myself from choosing Pride & Prejudice or any other Jane Austen novel

** Haha that last part I wrote using Reading Rainbow as my model. Anyone else remember that show?
