It has been my study that when one has good expectations about a meeting/event/activity/etc. they are often disappointed. And well, such is the case for me, who has a horrible habit of expecting too much. However, I have also found that when one rolls with the punches, sort to speak, good things can still occur, just perhaps not in the way we had originally expected them. But this is hard to do when one is with a person of polar opposite character!
My friend is horrible about this! She is one of those types that if something goes wrong she essentially shuts herself down. For example, her and I were at dinner when she got a text from a guy she had met the night before, they were supposed to meet up at a bar, but he and his 'mates' had to work early the following morning (today) and decided not to go out. Well let's just say that after she heard about that, she was completely out of it, and I'm convinced determined not to have fun! Conversational? no. Pleasant? nope. Optimistic? Nein, nein, nein!
By 11:15 she wanted to know how much longer we were going to be out. After a car ride, and a few drinks her mood was better, and we ended up meeting a small friendly group of British helicopter pilots. They were such nice guys! And we ended up having quite a nice long chat with two of them after we left the bar. But up until that point she was such a Debbie Downer!
